COMMUNITY { FINDING THE RIGHT DOG FOR YOU }

I am often asked to advise people on what breed of dog they should choose. The Humane Society states "when you adopt a mixed breed, you get the benefit of two or more different breeds in one animal. You also get a pet who is less prone to genetic defects common to certain purebred dogs" If you are still set on a certain breed you can stilll and should adopt.

I have adopted and rescued Siberian Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes since I started volunteering at the Humane Society in 1990. Some of the dogs have been mixed and some are pure breeds with papers. All have been great dogs!

So, this community page is meant to help you adopt that right pet whether pure or mixed ^..^

WHERE TO START
I always start with Pet Finder { petfinder.com }.This is a great website that will refine your search down to pet type, breed and location. Dogs and rescue groups from all over the nation are found here!

Of course you should always take a trip down to your local city shelter and see who is there. I always recommend going down in person because you might be surprised on which dog melts your heart the most. But if you want to scout out the dogs first here are their websites:

RESCUE GROUPS & SANCTUARIES
Where do the animals go when the shelter can't accommodate them? There are a few great rescue groups and sanctuaries you should see:
